What I Have Learned Since I Became Mom

Since becoming a mother I have learned several things. After giving birth to my daughter in April 1989, I suddenly found that I was responsible for another human being. This was a very hard task to undertake. Babies are very hard to take care of…constant feedings, diaper changes, clothing changes, bottles needing sterilized…the list goes on and on. I learned that I would make mistakes and that I had to fix them and move on. My daughter and I both survived my being a first time mother.

I also learned that the love between a mother and her children is unconditional. You have a strong bond with you children that is unexplainable. Children look at you and it feels as if they are looking deep into your soul…they know you inside and out.

Another thing I learned is that no matter how many times you wash your child’s face it will be dirty again 5 minutes later. Even if the child walks two feet from you after washing his or her face, the face will be come dirty again. The child is like a dirt magnet or something.

There are many other things that I learned as a mother but I don’t want to bore people with a long post. Besides, it gives me something to blog about later. hehe

01. I am 37-years-old, my birthday is October 13, 1970.
02. I have two children (girl age 19 and a boy age 15).
03. I have one grandson, age three months.
04. I have two dogs, Annabelle and Shelby.

Mommyfest Potluck – Peanut Butter Cookies

Easy Peanut Butter Cookies has been one of my favorite recipes ever since my children were very small. The cookies are a easy way to make a quick snack for the kids.

You can use creamy or crunchy peanut butter…I prefer to use creamy. This recipe can be doubled, tripled or bigger depending on the amount you need.

Easy Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter, any style
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cream together sugar, peanut butter and egg. (Mixture will start to form a ball).
3. Add vanilla.
4. Using a cookie scoop or 2 teaspoons, spoon out mounds of cookie dough on an ungreased cookie sheets.
5. Using a fork (or cookie stamp!) press cookie in a criss-cross pattern.
6. Bake for about 13 minutes.
7. Let cool on cookie sheet for 2-3 minutes, then cool completely on rack

Being A Mother

Becoming a mother…whether you are ready for it or not…is a big step towards being able to handle a lot of responsibility and involves total commitment. The moment I saw my first child I was overcome with tears. I had been carrying this precious life in me for nine months and was holding a perfect human…10 fingers, 10 toes and a cute button nose. My daughter had a full head of hair and the nurses would “fix it up fancy” every chance they got! I was so nervous handling my new baby girl. I was so afraid that I was going to drop her or hurt her somehow…she seemed so small and fragile.

When my son was born 4 years later I was still nervous when I held him but not as much as I was with my daughter. By now I was a pro at handling a baby…I was more worried about both my children’s future and if I would be a good mother to them both. I was so afraid of messing things up and if I did mess them up, not being able to fix them.

The responsibility that comes with having a child, especially two children has been overwhelming at times. But I feel that I have done a good job. I learned to give my love to another human being, unconditionally…which at first I did not think was possible. I also learned how to protect my children…like a mother lion watching her cubs. Yes, I messed up a lot BUT things always seem to smooth out.

I don’t think I have done too bad as a mother. My daughter is now 19, has a beautiful baby boy and just got married on May 3rd. She is beautiful and smart and I think she will go far in this life. My son is now 15 and is also smart, handsome and strong. He is currently in the 9th grade in school and is doing wonderfully. Both children have hopes and dreams and I pray that they succeed in accomplishing what they set out to do.
